Description: The Global Green growth Institute will host the International WEEE Day in Dakar on October 14, 2022. The event is part of the communication and behavior change campaign from the waste of electric electronic component of of project implemented in Dakar since 2020 in collaboration with the regional Center of Basel convention, Direction of Environment and classified establishments the Senegal Numérique agency.

The objective of this component is to implement an environmentally sound management system of WEEE in Senegal. During the implementation interesting results have been noted :

The development and submission to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of a draft decree on WEEE management, validation of the management model of the eco-organisation in the form of a WEEE take-back system, support mechanism for the private WEEE sector to facilitate the acquisition of equipment for an amount of USD 90,000 planned under the current project. A behaviour change campaign that covers the overall programme in order to advocate on policies, disseminate knowledge, conduct an awareness and drive change from practitioners and decisions makers.

In that context  we decided in collaboration with sponsor entities to host the International WEEE Day in Senegal that will register participation of at least 200 participants from Senegal and deliver work together to encourage reflection on the dangers of the uncontrolled use of WEEE and to pass on messages on how it should be attractive to structure the sector. The opportunity is offered on the day to highlight what is being done in the private sector in terms of recycling and recovery, the legal framework and opportunities of jobs creation.
