About us

Wecycle organises the collection and recycling of electrical appliances and energy-saving lighting (e-waste). Wecycle aims to collect as much e-waste as possible and to this end collaborates with municipalities, second-hand shops, retailers, schools, clubs & associations and consumers. Wecycle enables the responsible collection of e-waste on behalf of 1,600 producers and importers and guarantees high-grade recycling in environmental terms. Wecycle started operations in 1999 and its foundation was based on the ‘WEEE Management Decree’ of the Dutch government and an agreement with the branch associations of the EE Industry.

The producers and importers have to participate in a collective system or have to establish system of their own. Since 1 August 2004 the Dutch regulation is extended to the full scope of the European WEEE Directive.Until February 2011, Wecycle has been known under the name NVMP Foundation.

Wecycle works on behalf of six producer foundations, whose combined membership totals over 1,600 producers and importers. These foundations are Stichting Bruingoed, Stichting LightRec Nederland, Stichting Metalektro Recycling, Stichting Verwijdering Centrale Ventilatoren, Stichting Verwijdering Elektrische Gereedschappen and Stichting Witgoed. In addition, Wecycle renders services to the Dutch Association Disposal Metalelectro Products (NVMP Association) in which the client foundations coordinate their respective policies and determine the funding of the system.

Our mission is to help the PROs succeed operationally, take back and report e-waste efficiently and be known as members of the world’s foremost e-waste competence centre and as promoters of a circular economy. We engage in the general debate on e-waste policy matters, in Europe and globally.
