Despite the continuous efforts and the collection increase of nearly 2% between 2023 and 2024, just like the majority of EU countries, Luxembourg has not met the WEEE collection targets set by the European Commission. To address this challenge, they launched a nationwide awareness campaign focusing on two key issues: hoarding and the recycling of small electrical and electronic devices.
The campaign, titled “A simple action, a lasting impact,” uses visual storytelling to humanize electronic devices—portraying them as close companions that have shared our daily lives and memories.
This approach helps build an emotional connection with the devices often forgotten in drawers or disposed of improperly. Each visual carries the message “This isn’t my place!”, serving as a gentle reminder that these items don’t belong in regular waste.
To ensure strong visibility and engagement, Ecotrel deployed the campaign across multiple communication channels:
The WEEE Forum a.i.s.b.l. is an international association representing 51 producer responsibility organisations across the globe. Together with our members, we are at the forefront of turning the extended producer responsibility principle into an effective electronic waste management policy approach through our combined knowledge of the technical, business and operational aspects of collection, logistics, de-pollution, processing, preparing for reuse and reporting of e-waste. Our mission is to be the world’s foremost e-waste competence centre excelling in the implementation of the circularity principle.
