“Center for ElectroEcology”(Centrum ElektroEkologii), based in Warsaw, Poland, is a pioneering educational initiative that raises awareness about the environmental impact of electronic waste. Established in 2021 and operating from the innovative CIC Warsaw hub, the center integrates education, action, and inspiration to foster pro-environmental habits among diverse age groups.

The center was established by the WEEE Forum’s member ElektroEko, the biggest organisation in Poland specialsing in the recovery of electrical and electronic equipment. Its strategic partner is Samsung Electronics Poland, while its content partner is Association Cyfrowy Dialog.

At its core, Centrum ElektroEkologii focuses on teaching young people—avid technology users—about the environmental impact of e-waste. Through workshops, hackathons, and community events, participants learn how to manage discarded electronic devices and recycle valuable materials sustainably. These efforts align closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing responsible consumption and environmental preservation.

The center’s workshops (both on-site and online) are the cornerstone of its mission. Tailored for both primary and secondary school students across Poland, these sessions explore topics such as the lifecycle of electronics, the significance of rare earth materials, and the concept of environmentally friendly technology. Engaging formats, such as interactive stories and hands-on activities, make complex issues accessible and relatable. By equipping young minds with practical knowledge, the center inspires students to adopt eco-conscious behaviors and spread awareness within their communities.
With over 16,000 students trained and almost 700 workshops conducted, Centrum ElektroEkologii is driving change across Poland.

Centrum ElektroEkologii also excels at creating innovative programs that engage communities in meaningful discussions about e-waste. One of its hallmark initiatives is the E-waste Hackathon, where students design campaigns to promote e-waste recycling among their peers. With support from experts, participants refine their ideas and present them in creative formats, ranging from presentations to prototypes. The hackathon fosters collaboration, creativity, and a deeper understanding of how individual actions contribute to global sustainability efforts.

Another impactful initiative of Centrum ElektroEkologii is the ElectroEcological School competition, which challenges schools across Poland to embrace sustainability through the effective management of electronic waste. The competition encourages students, teachers, and local communities to collaborate in designing and implementing campaigns that promote e-waste recycling. Schools are evaluated based on their creativity, community involvement, and the measurable impact of their initiatives. By turning environmental responsibility into a shared and competitive endeavor, the contest not only fosters eco-friendly practices but also strengthens community ties. Winning schools gain recognition as leaders in ecological education while inspiring others to follow their example.

Centrum ElektroEkologii is not just a hub for learning but a catalyst for behavioral change, blending education with actionable solutions to address the global e-waste crisis. For more information, visit Centrum ElektroEkologii or watch the vide below.
