Description: StEP (Solving the E-waste Problem) initiative is excited to participate in the upcoming International E-waste Day activities. As part of our contribution, we will publish a dedicated social media post and text on Pervasive Electronic Products (PEPs).

PEPs are everyday items infused with electronic components, ranging from smart textiles to LED shoes. These products are all around us, but their impact on e-waste management is often underestimated.

Our aim is to shed light on the challenges and opportunities related to PEPs. We will provide information on how they fit into the broader context of electronic waste and the circular economy.

StEP's post will serve as an educational resource, sharing insights into the unique recycling challenges posed by PEPs and the need for responsible disposal.

On International E-waste Day, we will share this informative post to engage our audience and raise awareness about the importance of addressing PEPs in the world of electronic waste.

We look forward to contributing to this global initiative and working together to promote sustainable e-waste practices. Stay tuned for our PEP-focused content on this important day!

    News release, Recycling plant tour

Description: In Kematen/Ybbs, in the province of Lower Austria, we recycle cooling equipment in what are up-to-the-minute facilities and where approximately 300,000 units are treated per year in three-shift operations. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary, we will be organising a plant tour for students and media representatives to demonstrate how discarded cooling appliances are treated correctly and that close to 95% of the materials is recycled as secondary raw materials. Materials such as aluminium, iron, copper, and plastics are extracted with great care and can be put to use in new products. With this event we aim to raise awareness of the importance of e-waste recycling and highlight the International E-Waste Day.

Description: While the 100 workers at the Dismantling and Recycling Center Vienna are busy processing the community's e-waste, hardly anyone in the predominantly residential neighbourhood knows about the exact why and how of the noise and truck traffic involved.

Come and find out by yourself! You are welcome to visit the premises of DRZ, and learn about what happens here: the environmental and social benefits of treating 6 tons of old electric and/or electronic appliances per workday, with formerly long-term unemployed persons who face difficulties in finding an appropriate new job on the regular labour market.

Most of this huge amount of e-waste is dismantled manually, for recycling, but some devices can still be re-used, after some repair steps, and particularly appealing parts even make really beautiful new design products.

    • Guided tours

    • Workshops for adults and children

    • Collection of small electronic devices
