In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Board of the WEEE Forum has decided to postpone the International WEEE Forum conference, originally scheduled for 27-28 May 2020 in Lucerne, Switzerland, to the third trimester of the year. The new date will shortly be announced.

Digital Circular Economy as Climate Change Policy

In 2020, the WEEE Forum, the voice of 40 electronic waste producer responsibility organisations in Europe, North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania, will celebrate 18 years of excellence as a leader in the e-waste sector.

To mark this occasion, an international conference of the WEEE Forum will be held on 27-28 May 2020 in the beautiful city of Lucerne in Switzerland. Switzerland has been chosen as the perfect location for the celebrations, for the country has the longest track record of e-waste management in the whole world. SENS eRecycling, respected among the world’s collection schemes and one of the founders of the WEEE Forum, will be the conference host and co-organiser.

In sync with the new European Commission’s vision of making Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, the conference will highlight how digitalisation can make a significant contribution to creating a circular economy in the (W)EEE sector. It will bring together distinguished speakers from across the value chain – from policy makers and researchers to electronics manufacturers and WEEE operators – to present the issues and opportunities and debate the future.

The varied programme will commence with a discussion on how e-waste collection and treatment can contribute to climate impact mitigation. The esteemed team of Janez Potočnik, former European Commissioner for the Environment and co-chair of the UNEP International Resource Panel, has been invited to deliver the keynote address.

One of the highlights of the conference will occur later on day one, when we will unveil the European Policy Centre’s brand-new study on the Roadmap towards Digital Circular Economy in the E-Waste Sector. This research has been commissioned exclusively for the conference and will show how digitalisation is critical in the transition to a Circular Economy in our sector.

On day two of the conference, manufacturers, producer responsibility organisations, recyclers, retailers, consumers, academia and NGOs will explain how they are contributing and will continue to contribute to a Circular Society.

The conference will also reveal a ground-breaking UN study on WEEE Flows in Europe, which is expected to help to inform the revision of the WEEE legislation in the EU Member States.

The WEEE Forum will welcome 220 international delegates from across the (W)EEE sector to engage in interactive discussions with senior EU and government officials, captains of industry and prominent stakeholders.
