Workshop

Description: Gamenight at adelphi: In the Loop – Unravelling e-waste and the circular economy in a playful way

"Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand.” In this workshop at adelphi in connection with International eWaste Day, we will to unravel the basics of the Circular Economy and e-waste management by playing an interactive board game called In the Loop.

By presenting today’s resource-related challenges in a fun and engaging way, In the Loop simulates complex, global resource supply chains and triggers players to find solutions - all in less than 90 minutes. The objective is simple: players take on the role of a manufacturing company and try to be the first to seven ‘Progress Points’ by collecting resources and building products.

But, in this uncertain world, how much progress will your company make? You will face difficult strategic decisions as you navigate through constricted resource mines and unpredictable world events. Should you collaborate with competitors, invest in mining new materials, or change your business model?

We will provide a brief introduction into the game’s mechanics and have a Skype call with the creator Katie Whalen for a brief Q&A. And, of course, we will play the game!

Public Campaign - Social media

Description: On Friday 20th of September we started a social media challenge called #WEEEcleanup. We challenge consumers to search for WEEE on their homes and take it to the points of disposal. With this challenge we want to create awareness that WEEE doesn't belong in the normal waste and that WEEE can and should be taken to the correct places to a) contribute to the circular economy and gain materials b)increase the amount of takebacks and c)be disposed correctly reducing environmental and social risks

We have spread the message #WEEEcleanup in different channels as Twitter and LinkedIn. We also challenge other companies to share the challenge with their customers.

Description: In support of the 2019 INTERNATIONAL E-WASTE day Sims Recycling Solutions (SRS) will publish an educational blogpost on our website about why E-Waste Collection is important. This post will be shared via the SRS social media channels and newsletter in an effort to inform as many people as possible about the message. Our colleagues are requested to share the social media posts within their own social media channels.

Furthermore SRS will donate trees for every ton (1000KG) of E-Waste delivered into our recycling sites on 14th of October, 2019. This Sims - “E-Waste for Trees” - program will plant two trees per ton, one tree will be planted in Europe and the second one in Africa. Trees and Recycling E-Waste both contribute to a significant reduction of CO2 emissions. Trees capture CO2 emissions, and using recovered E-Waste materials as raw-material in the production process of new products reduces the usage of energy and CO2 emissions significantly. The activities will take place in: The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Austria, United Arab Emirates, South Africa.
