Description: The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) is the regulatory authority for the communications sector in Kenya. The Authority is a member of National IEWD Steering Committee since last year when we celebrated the day on 13th October 2018.

The Authority being the lead in the ICT sector is in cognizance of the importance of e-waste management. This is due to the industry it regulates which is high in innovation with high rate of technology change. CA shall therefore, be involved in educating its staff, stakeholders and the public with an intent to create awareness on the e-waste, its advantages and challenges if WEEE isn't well treated. The negative effects to the air, water and land(environment) which could eventually affect the human health. This would affect the social aspect of human lives as a result of poor public health and less economic activities; as most of the money would be channeled to medication as opposed to economic development.

During the week prior to the IEWD 2019, the Authority in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry; Safaricom Limited (Telco operator); WEEE Centre, Kenya which is responsible for the recycling and WEEE treatment in the country; NEMA; the Informal Sector(Collectors and dismantlers) have come together to publicise the day and ensure that the effects will be sustainable for proper management of e-waste in the country. The team shall be involved in publishing and distribution educational material on e-waste, banners, establish collection points. On 11th October 2019, we there will be a collection challenge where the individuals, both staff and public, who would bring most WEEE from their houses shall be rewarded; while everyone else who would bring any item on e-waste, shall be given a certificate.

Communications Authority of Kenya has been established as one of the collection centres among others.
On the D-Day, 14th October, the Authority shall join other stakeholders to celebrate the day, led by the organizing committee and the Ministry of Environment Cabinet Secretary. CA shall give a key note during the event. The Venue shall be at the WEEE Centre, Nairobi, Kenya.
