Presentation of the results of a GPS investigation on the WEEE paths in Italy

Description: ALTROCONSUMO – the main Italian Consumers organization – and ECODOM launched a few months ago an investigation to understand where the WEEE leaving the Italian homes end up. The investigation is certainly the most important made so far in our Country both for the number of WEEE equipped with a GPS tracking device and for the geographical coverage of the sample: it concerns more than 200 appliances – including washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, dryers and freezers – that should reach a correct treatment plant, once they have been given the public collection center or the distributors by the citizens. The route of the WEEE is however tortuous, and goes through collection centers, sorting points, metal scrap dealers, flea markets … how many “obstacles” a WEEE encounters in its final path? Where do the WEEE disappear, and where do they cause serious risks of pollution on our territory? Come and see the results!
