INTERNATIONAL E-WASTE DAY – IEWD 2020

DATE: 14.10.2020 – 1 to 5 pm

The 3rd INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ELECTRONELECTRONIC WASTE (International E-waste Day - IEWD) will be held on October 14th, 2020. The Mineral Technology Center (CETEM) and the São Paulo State University (Unesp) will hold a series of lectures on the topic, with the participation of e-waste management companies. This edition of the event will be entirely online and will take place by videoconference between the two organizing institutions.

In Brazil are generated about 2,1 Mt of e-waste each year. The procedures for e-waste management are regulated by the Brazilian Policy on Solid Waste - BPSW (Law 12,305 and Decree 7,404 from 2010). This year we celebrate 10 year of the BPSW and e-waste is the most recent regulated waste type.

Description: Green Eletron, as the main Take Back System in Brazil, will promote a collection campaign of e-waste in the factories of  our associates and nearby condos. This will be accompanied with communications materials with the objective of educating and generating awareness around the importance of recycling electrical and electronic equipment. The action will go on during October.

Also, we encouraged our partners in retail to produce and share communications around the E-Waste Day on their stores, social media and apps.

We will also launch a movement called Eletrônico Não é Lixo (translation: Electronic is not waste) to generate awareness among the general public. We will send press kits to journalists and influencers on E-Waste Day with the objective of explaining what the e-waste is and how to properly discard them. Also, we will launch a website dedicated to the movement, a manifest video and the production of an e-book about the e-waste.
