Public Campaign - Social media, School campaign or collection

Description: The WEEE4Future campaign, aims at engaging people to count, characterize, collect and contribute their e-waste in four target cities/regions, leveraging the EIT RawMaterials partner network. The target audience is school and university students (14-24 year olds), with a KPI of engaging with 7,000 households across the four cities. The project will initially run until the end of 2020, with launch taking place end of September.

The aim is to gamify the process of collecting e-waste through use of a website, allowing schools or groups to enter details on e-waste found in their homes.  The project also gives access to educational content around the materials found in different electronics in order to raise awareness and increase understanding of e-waste issues and the importance of recycling; this will be structured around three modules:

Module 01

The E-Waste Dilemma

  • Definition

  • Category and type

  • Composition and mass balance

Module 02

The E-Waste Solution

  • E-Waste management system

  • E-Waste treatment process

Module 03

E-Recycling Benefits

  • Separated materials

  • New life for materials

Final disposal of hazardous and non recyclable materials

The target group is young, diverse and active. We will use social media to reach them ; we will roll out a communications campaign once the website is ready involving social media ads for generation Z, targeted ads to reach out to teachers and direct ads on instagram.

Description: On 3rd of September 2020 we started participating on the collection project of the non-profit organization NABU, which is collecting smartphones and donating part of the generated revenues to the NABU insect protection fund to protect the habitat of bumblebees, bees and other insects. By using our social media campaign #whattheschrott we want to reach our society and motivate all of us to GO GREEN. The creation of awareness that unused electronics shouldn’t be hoarded at home as they include valuable materials, which can be recovered by correct recycling, is our key topic. The incentives for correct electronics recycling and the results of our NABU smartphone collection will be addressed by CIRECON on our social media channels and on our newly created website https://cirecon.de/gogreen/ during the International E-waste Day 2020.
