Description: APPLiA will participate also this year’s International E-Waste Day. As the association representing Europe’s home appliance industry, we consider this initiative an important opportunity to underline the role of our sector in advancing resource efficiency and supporting the circular economy.

Our contribution will be structured around two themes. The first theme will focus on the journey of critical raw materials in home appliances - and why they are truly critical for the sector.

The second theme will address the challenges linked to the recovery and recycling of these materials. Despite existing collection and treatment systems, a significant share of critical raw materials continues to be lost. We will highlight the barriers that prevent efficient recovery and the need for solutions that can strengthen Europe’s resilience and reduce dependency on external sources.

To convey these messages, APPLiA will prepare dedicated social media content aimed at raising awareness and providing clear information on both themes.

Description:

Keeping Value in the Loop: Exploring the CRM Potential of E-Waste

To mark International E-Waste Day, Eurometaux will host a webinar exploring how e-waste can become a driver of Europe’s circular economy and resource resilience. The event will highlight the critical raw materials (CRMs) embedded in e-waste and the importance of keeping them in the loop to support the EU’s green and digital transitions.

Speakers from the European Commission, industry, recyclers, and NGOs will discuss the forthcoming revision of the WEEE Directive, the new EU Waste Shipment Regulation, and how these developments align with the Circular Economy Act. The debate will address challenges such as e-waste collection, illegal exports, and shipment practices, while identifying opportunities to improve CRM recovery, foster innovation, and reinforce Europe’s strategic autonomy.
