Description: As part of the International E-Waste Day campaign, AST Recycling in collaboration with Timbaktuu, a technology-enabled retail aggregator platform that connects and creates access for companies to township and rural communities, will be organizing an e-waste drive in Soweto, one of the biggest townships in South Africa. E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream in South Africa, unfortunately the level of e-waste recycling is very low. While 6 kg/y to 7 kg/y of e-waste is generated for every South African citizen only 360 000 t/y of e-waste is placed on the market. Only 7% to 12% of the total volume is being recycled formally. Creating easy points of collection for e-waste are crucial in addressing this growing problem. Together with Timbaktuu we have identified 25 internet cafes in Soweto township which the local community will be able to use as drop - off points for e-waste. International E-Waste Day will be the launch of a long term project to help tackle the growing e-waste problem in rural areas and townships. We believe that this project will be also beneficial in creating jobs for unemployed youth.

There are currently 25 internet cafes that are working in this township that we are looking to facilitate as e-waste drop of points.

This will be one of many e-waste drives to South African townships.

Description: We will be hosting a live launch of our newly accredited ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 waste electrical and electronic equipment facility on LinkedIn Live at 15h00 (SAST) on 14th October 2021. This launch will include a virtual tour of our facility, an address by a guest speaker, a brief description of our services portfolio and a celebration of our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditation.  We aim to encourage more businesses to recycle their WEEE.

Description: We will be marketing the International E waste Day via our website and will do an article to all our members and stakeholder via social media and email campaigns to increase the role of consumers in improving rates of re-use and recycling.

 

Description: Reclite SA will email its customer and broader stakeholders within its network to increase the awareness and education to the consumer on how to increase recycling rates. This will be done via various communication platforms such as social media, press releases and via its website and newsletters.

Following the success of last years campaign, Reclite SA will also offer nationwide collection venues on the day for consumers, to provide support for international waste day, so that consumers and general public can drop off old electronic and electrical waste.

Description: Urban Elements will be providing a training workshop on the importance of consumer awareness and how to support consumer collection campaigns and collections to various recyclers, and electronic waste management companies to raise the awareness which in turn supports higher collection targets.
