About us

WEEE Ireland is a not-for-profit organisation, committed to delivering cost effective compliance on behalf of the Irish producer members under the approval of the Minister of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. WEEE Ireland has been operational since 2005 and has been since the scheme of choice in Ireland maintaining majority market share across all sectors representing 96% of the Irish battery industry and 76% of the household and dual use electrical and electronic (B2C) industry.

Members

In 2017, WEEE Ireland had a total of 927 members, representing 75% of the market share in Ireland. Producers of both battery and EEE represent 76% of our members, whilst 16% and 8% are EEE only and battery only respectively.

Logistics and Treatment system

WEEE Ireland has developed a successful logistics model coordinating contractors, corporate partners and local government to achieve collection targets and recovery rates and are committed to implementing the WEEELABEX and EN equivalent quality standards of excellent in WEEE recycling for our members.

All small electrical waste is recycled at our WEEELABEX certified operator´s state of the art facilities in Ireland, recovering sources for sustainable reuse in manufacturing, thereby supporting a more circular economy. All other waste appliances and batteries collected by WEEE Ireland are prepared for recycling in Ireland with final processing carried out in UK, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany.
