About us
Stichting OPEN, previously known as Wecycle, organises the collection and recycling of electrical appliances and energy-saving lighting (e-waste). Stichting OPEN aims to collect as much e-waste as possible and to this end collaborates with municipalities, second-hand shops, retailers, schools, clubs & associations and consumers. Stichting OPEN enables the responsible collection of e-waste on behalf of 1,600 producers and importers and guarantees high-grade recycling in environmental terms. Wecycle started operations in 1999 and its foundation was based on the ‘WEEE Management Decree’ of the Dutch government and an agreement with the branch associations of the EE Industry and became Stichting OPEN in 2021.
The producers and importers have to participate in a collective system or have to establish system of their own. Since 1 August 2004 the Dutch regulation is extended to the full scope of the European WEEE Directive. Until February 2011, Wecycle has been known under the name NVMP Foundation.

In addition, Stichting OPEN renders services to the Dutch Association Disposal Metalelectro Products (NVMP Association) in which the client foundations coordinate their respective policies and determine the funding of the system.
