Foundation

The ECOTIC Foundation is a non-profit private organization, whose establishment has been promoted by the main Consumer Electronics companies. It was founded on March 7th, 2005, to comply with the obligations imposed by the legislation. A great number of manufacturers, importers and distributors of electrical and electronic devices joined together to protect the environment and promote sustainable development. The result is the ECOTIC Foundation, a WEEE Compliance Scheme.
Ecotic total market share is around 36% and more than 650 members have joined the foundation since 2005.

Collection system

ECOTIC takes part in Ofiraee, the Spanish clearing house. It is also a party in all the existing regional agreements signed with the Autonomous Communities governments. Furthermore, ECOTIC has signed agreements with the main retailers operating in the Spanish market. ECOTIC provides a pick-up service to its collection partners on demand for a minimum quantity of products. The pick-up requests will have to be registered on the ECOTIC e-platform, accessible through the ECOTIC website. Our collecting network operating in 2018 is constituted by more than 10.000 registered collection points including municipalities, retailers, storage/grouping facilities, technical services etc.

Treatment/logistic partners

ECOTIC has selected over 70 treatment and logistic operators to cover the national territory for the collection, transport and treatment of WEEE. ECOTIC has chosen its treatment/logistics providers based on their legal compliance, optimization of treatment and transport costs, technological capabilities and geographical location. Some of our providers are social initiatives dealing with the collection and re-use of WEEE.
