Foundation
EcoCómputo started as an initiative of the companies of the technology sector, with the support of the National Association of Businessmen of Colombia – ANDI, to promote the Social Enterprise Responsibility of its Associate and of the companies related to the sectors that use technology (Computers). Later on its role became to fulfil the tasks set down in Resolution 1512 of 2010 established by the National Government. EcoCómputo is a non-profit entity founded by 41 companies (importers, producers and marketers) from the technology sector. According to the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) EcoCómputo represents and aims to give voice and defend the common interests of its members. EcoCómputo has a national coverage in the Republic of Colombia (1103 municipalities), coverage is gradual. Currently, EcoCómputo has 51 affiliates (producers, importers and marketers) from the technology sector. From the start of its operations until December 2020, it collected and managed more than 17,650 MT. In 2020 it collected 1,727.3 MT.
Mission
EcoCómputo administers the System of Selective Collection and Environmental Management of Computer and/or Peripheral Waste, through the coordination of the processes of collection, transport, storage, treatment, use and/or final disposal of this type of waste, as a response to the initiative of the National Government to promote the Extended Responsibility of the Producer and in compliance with environmental regulations, contributing to the establishment of a new environmental culture for the citizens of Colombia.
Vision
EcoCómputo for 2032 will be positioned as the System of Selective Collection and Environmental Waste Management Technology most important of the country, meeting the evaluation indicators management system in terms of data collection and management, information and awareness to the consumer, geographical coverage, research applied research and experimental development on waste utilization and promotion of circular economy.
Achievements
- 17,652 tons of waste from computers and peripherals managed since 2012.
- 310 fixed collection points installed.
- 28/32 departments of the country covered with electronic waste collection activities.
